Design and construction of a new Student Union Building to contain approximately 58,000 gross square feet on 2-levels is included as a S.A.I.L.S. project.
The building is a steel moment frame construction with durable, long-lasting exterior finish materials such as brick cladding, exterior cement plaster and composite metal panels which were selected to create visual harmony with the existing buildings on campus.
A wide variety of programs are housed within the new Student Union including Student Dining and Food Service, Culinary Arts, Campus Bookstore, Student Activities / ASO, Business Office, and Commons Areas. It provides a social hub for student life and student services, by its presence at the center of the campus, and by the multi-functional program components housed within the facility.
Elite’s scope included multiple integrated curtain wall systems which were designed by Elite and were required to meet stringent LACCD seismic criteria.
The project included exterior and interior storefront systems as well as many skylights and 4’ diameter solar tubes. Also prominent are oversized bi-fold doors and a large interior system throughout including auto doors and transaction windows. The project also present complex waterproofing applications given the various skin elements of the building.
